JupyterLab itself existed prior to the desktop app I‘m referring to and is kind of like an IDE for Jupyter Notebooks. and it‘s a news, because it has just been released as a desktop app. They benefit from the simplest start up, without having to get much set up. It might be used to create websites with a Python REPL interface for code teaching. One place I might use it is for teaching people new to Python. It runs in a web brower (frontend and backend). Jupyter Lite decreases the entry barrier for setting up the development environment. If you would like to use Jupyter Lab extensions and have a simpler look, then RetroLab is a good choice. You can open several notebooks in the same page and it has many extensions, for example, Language Server Protocol integration for code completion, suggestions, continuous hinting, diagnostics, highlighting (available at /jupyter-lsp/jupyterlab-lsp). If you are looking for a fully Integrated Development Environment, then you should try Jupyter Lab. It has all features that I need - editing simple Python scripts and doing data explorations.
